Come July, the Edmonton Municipal Airport will see the return of 11,000 feet of concrete and 22,230 tire cushions as the popular city centre terminal is transformed into a pulse-pounding speedway. With Rexall once again playing the role of top sponsor in the uber-popular car-racing event that has graced The City of Champions for the past three summers, the formerly named The Grand Prix of Edmonton is now known as Rexall Edmonton Indy after a merger between Indy Racing circuit and the now defunct Champ Car Series. Under the heading of even bigger news, Edmonton is the only Canadian race to survive the February merger of the two series, promising that the newly revamped event will be bigger and better then ever.

Auto racing fans across North America can once again expect to see the best in open-wheel racing at this world-class event that coincides with Edmonton's biggest summer festival Capital EX. Drawing the biggest names in motor racing (not to mention more of them than in previous years) to the city including Graham Rahal and Justin Wilson of Newman Haas Lanigan Racing as well as Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Danica Patrick and Dan Wheldon, this often celebrity- and tourist-riddled showcase of the racing world’s elite is also highly attended by avid locals. Last year alone, 167,000 fans filled the stands at the Rexall Speedway to watch racers hit top speeds of 320 km/h while taking death-defying turns on the track.

For its part, the track is one of the most fascinating features of Race. Eighty percent of the specially built FIA road course is visible from anywhere in the stands, therein making it one of the most fan-friendly circuits in the IndyCar Series. And of course, the party atmosphere and action on the sidelines is a thrilling aspect to the main event.

The food will be hot, the beer cold and the racers ready to rock, so pack those binoculars, slap on some sunscreen and get ready for the thrill of the IndyCar race!

Rexall Edmonton Indy runs from July 24-26 and takes place at the Edmonton Municipal Airport in Downtown Edmonton. For tickets call Ticketmaster at 451-8000 or visit their website at www.edmontonindy.com for more information.
