The tower overlooks the North End of Halifax, the section most devastated by the Halifax Explosion, which took place when the Belgian relief ship Imo collided with the French munitions vessel Mont Blanc on December 6, 1917. The tower pays tribute to the 2,000 who died in the largest single, man-made explosion prior to the atomic bomb. The park has a sports field, tennis courts, wading pool and playground. Average duration of visit: half an hour. Union Street, near Novalea Drive.
