Named a National Historic Site in 1996, this Victorian home is the birthplace of Canadian doctor Norman Bethune, known for his heroic work as a field surgeon and educator in China and Spain as well as the inventor of the mobile blood transfusion unit. The site has been meticulously restored to look as it did in 1890, the year of his birth. Visitor's centre offers audio-visual presentations, and a shop carrying Bethune memorabilia. June 1-Aug. 31 open daily 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sept.-Oct. Sat.-Wed. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Nov.-May closed except by appointment. Call for admission rates.
