Canada's unique agricultural heritage is explored at this museum, where visitors can experience the sights, sounds, and history of farm life. The detailed interactive exhibits give guests a closer look at what makes farms tick, the popular animal barns give kids of all ages a chance to get up close and personal with their favourite furry friends—sheep, chicken, goats, and more—and the nearby Dominion Arboretum and ornamental gardens offer up a calming respite in the middle of a big city. In fact, Ottawa is the only capital city to have a working farm at its heart. Open daily from 9am to 5pm.

Although there are no exhibitions during the winter months, free visits to the animal barn continue from Nov. 1 through to Feb. 28. As of March 1, the museum re-opens fully. On display: 'Tractors' offers visitors a look at how the familiar farm equipment went from being an oddity to a commonplace sight on farms. 'Brewers Gold' tells the tale of hops, an important ingredient in beer. Artifacts and photographs help illustrate hop farming in British Columbia, one of the province’s first commercial agricultural crops. March 1 to 8 and 14 to 22: 'Barnyard Break' invites youngsters to celebrate their time off school by visiting animals, making some springtime recipes, helping to name the newborn calves, an other kid-friendly activities. Parking is free year round.
