Go to the Sparks Street Mall website
Located one block south of Parliament Hill, Sparks Street is Canada’s oldest outdoor pedestrian mall. Popular with visitors and locals alike, the eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, pubs, and outdoor cafés makes it a key destination in the city. Visitors can also see some of Ottawa’s most beautiful heritage buildings and stunning architecture, as well as public art and fountains which decorate the street. Events take place on Sparks Street throughout the year, including the Ottawa International Busker Festival in August and the International Chicken & Rib Cook-Off in June.
Canada’s first pedestrian mall stretches from Elgin to Lyon Street, a block south of the Parliament Buildings. Historically a commercial area, the mix of long-established local businesses, combined with distinctive heritage architecture, creates a unique atmosphere. A number of lunch counters and coffee shops attract the downtown lunch crowd.
